The BIG question. Why Boudoir?
When I started photography it was at the height of the COVID-19 Pandemic. I was forced, like so many others - to look inward, self reflect and really practice some self discovery. Because what else was there to do right? I learned that I am a creative soul. I love art. I love passion. I love finding creative ways to express both.
I was blessed to be gifted a camera by someone I truly appreciate and I just began to use it. I didn’t know much, but I knew I had “an eye”. I could look at a scene and visualize an amazing moment that could be captured and saved through time. Or I could instantly pick out a great shot and immediately felt compelled to grab it! I of course used my family and local scenery to practice starting out and I created amazing images that I love to this day.
I used resources I had and got to work on my first studio location. It was small and quaint, but it was mine. I had just as much fun decorating the room as I did creating the photography in it.
I don’t remember the exact moment I stumbled on boudoir. It looked like something that would just be fun to try. So I researched it and was truly blown away by the experience of it. How boudoir stands for so much more than a sexy picture. I had no idea!!
By definition:
Bou·doir /ˈbo͞odˌwär/ noun a woman's bedroom or private room.
The realization that I could use my listening skills, pro-women passion in this confidence boosting way WHILE creating art. I was ecstatic. It took no time to ask for models to practice this with. That first session was a turning point not only in my photography journey, but in my life. I had found it. I found my spark and more importantly, I found a way to bring a spark out of other women too.
So WHY should YOU do boudoir?
For that spark. Girl it is worth every ounce of fear that you might feel considering it. That fear is how you know you’ll come out on the other side stronger.
You’re already capable. You’re already beautiful. Now document it. Highlight it. Embrace it.
We like to experience things that make us feel good as women. Maybe it’s getting your nails done, your hair done, maybe it's getting a massage. Maybe it's as simple as showering and shaving. Either way, we feel refreshed and rejuvenated. Think of a boudoir experience leaving you feeling the same PLUS stronger and ready to conquer the world.
