Photographing the Photographer

I took a dose of what my clients get to experience during a boudoir session. Minus all the fun pampering - that's saved for you gals! ;)

One, because I was really excited to try out the beautiful body jewelry piece - newly added to our client closet! & Two, because I thought it would be fun. Simple as that.

Recently, in my super supportive Women Only Facebook Group (ShortStudioS Sisterhood) I've gone into detail a bit about the networking I have been doing lately, events I've attended and growth I am focusing on. I described how nothing forces you to discover why you actually do what you do, until you're explaining the depth of it to new people. My best friend has heard me talk about my business, ideas and passions until she could probably do it for me, but hearing myself explain it to several strangers over the course of a few hours – it was transcending.

I was truly illuminated. This will be a moment I can look back and point to and say that’s when I found it. The deep-rooted passion for why I chose boudoir photography. I was sitting down, out to dinner with 10+ other businesswomen, slamming my hand on the table emphasizing how important it is to me that women have a voice they aren't afraid to use. 

Whether the voice needs the strength to say "I'm worthy" in front of the bathroom mirror or to establish boundaries, only accepting things that serve you, or something else - I am here to help you see how deserving of your own voice you are. How the magic of using it will change your life. How embracing your inner strength and value will impact your future generations.

I can't and won't stop this mission. Women will not, in my presence, self-shame. There’s no time to waste on anyone who treats you other than as the queen you are.

We are women. We have flaws and imperfections. We live without reservation or need for validation. We are rising, thriving and truly living life unapologetically. Babe, you better be too.

On the fun side, boudoir is such a fun time. We basically become best friends during your sessions! There's something naturally alluring about me that makes you comfortable stripping down and chatting away - and I pride myself on creating that environment. You get to enjoy a professional makeover from the fabulous HMUA, Michelle @Sierra Beauty LLC. You get to play dress up with a closet full of outfits, hang out in different sets and scenes and truly not think about anything but yourself. Total flex.

Your session is about you. Your story, your why, your voice and your body. I am your cheerleader, supporter and educator on seeing your own value. I will be completely honest and open with you along the journey, tending to the experience and bringing the fun.

Then you leave knowing you conquered, had a great time, you looked amazing doing it and you have kick ass photos to prove it. You carry yourself into the world bolder and braver, using your voice without hesitation - and that my friends, is THE FUCKING BEST.

So, then it was my turn! I am very blessed to have such an amazing studio space. It is where I am truly most comfortable working. Lately though, I have been embracing the beautiful outdoors! Nature is healing and healing is growth. We should embrace it every chance we get. Our space provides access to acres of private wooded landscape where we can create some fierce magic in nature - and even with some farm animals if desired. It is truly a hidden gem and I really wanted to showcase how being free, happy and confident in nature looks.

I love how these photos came out. Were there toss aways – sure! I was using a damn tripod and running back and forth for hours in the heat. But they are true to my soul, true to my peace and true to my brand.

Here's what I discovered:



1.   I ask you to do hard things. As the person behind the camera, I encourage you to be vulnerable, raw and brave, but also bold, bright and fun... there is a lot to feel throughout the experience. I would never ask you to do something I wasn't willing to do myself. Between elaborate posing and learning self-love practices, it can be a lot. Please know, I experienced it too. I will go fiercely through the trenches with you. The growth (and the pics) are worth it!

2.   I was not kidding when I included the recommendation in your prep guide to stretch PRIOR to your boudoir session! Holy cow was I sore after this. HA! That's what I get for not taking my own advice, but honestly - still worth it!



3.  And this is a big one. Looking at the back of the camera and seeing how good I look is unforgettable - It is difficult to top - what telling myself “I look amazing” feels like. Then seeing how happy I look deep within the fire; it is soul nourishing. Every curve, every lightning strike, every inch of myself makes me happy. Not because I don't see areas for improvement, but because I know what I have been through. I know how hard I've worked to get to this place. I know what carrying the weight of self-conscious behavior feels like. And more importantly, I know what it feels like to let it go.



I love that I have grown enough to feel comfortable sharing not only my story and my work, but my experience. If it inspires anyone else, it is worth it.
